Renzo Cicillini works primarily with analog medium format photography. His photographs often start with ordinary places and structures: platforms, benches, shorelines, walls and edges. He returns to them when their purpose becomes less obvious, after use, between movements, or while nothing seems to happen.

Reduction and precise framing are central to the work. Edges, repetition and distance can detach familiar elements from their usual context. Figures, when they appear, rarely explain the scene. They are simply part of it.

Film is part of the construction of the image, not an aesthetic applied afterwards. Colour, grain and the limits of exposure influence how the photograph is made. Cicillini is interested in the point at which action recedes but the scene is still unresolved. The photographs stop there.
